The Primafill does not work as smoothly as they show in the video. There is no way that you can successfully load 100 primers down the tube in 8-10 seconds. And forget about trying to get all primers flipped. It is nowhere near as easy as my plastic primer flipper. It consistently leaves 5-6...

This is exactly what I have been looking for! If there is one thing that makes reloading uninteresting for me it is loading primer tubes. So much so that I bought a dozen tubes and fill them when I am not busy. I could never justify spending $300 plus on other solutions and I even tried to build...

DAA PRIMAFILL

(22)
Manufacturers: Double-Alpha Academy

Description:

The Double-Alpha PRIMAFILL is a semi-automatic primer-tube filling solution, able to quickly and easily fill both Small and Large primer tubes. It allows you to switch between Small and Large primers instantly, without tools or assembly.

The PRIMAFILL can be used with any primer tubes which have an 8mm outer diameter, such as Dillon, or DAA tubes. It does not require a custom adaptor piece fitted to the tube, as other competing products require. So using the PRIMAFILL, you will be able to fill all your primer tubes!

The Extra-Large flip-tray area is convenient when emptying large primer boxes, such as Federal and others. The tray is large enough for the entire box to fit over.

The PRIMAFILL is powered by a regular 9v battery (not included). A momentary ON switch falls naturally under your index finger as you hold the device for right hand use, with your thumb centered on top of the lid. Hold the button down as you feed the primers into the tube, and release as soon as the last primer vanishes down the exit hole. Since this action should take 20 seconds or less, one battery charge will last for many thousands of primers.

The spring-loaded orange latches incorporated into the output posts enable you to snap a tube into place, or remove it, instantly without any twists or turns, the latch falls naturally under your thumb: you press down on it as you insert the tube up, and  you press up on the latch as you extract the tube downwards. An Easy and natural apposing thumb action.

Primer tubes and battery are not included!

Operating Instructions:

  1. Ensure a 9v battery is inserted and test by pushing the powder button. The device should vibrate and hum gently in  your hand. Do not remove the foam pad from under the battery, it is required there.
  2. Remove the lid, and position the magnetically-retained stopper to block either the LARGE or the SMALL exit hole to match your needs. Flip it over when moving it from one side to the other.
  3. Stand the PRIMAFILL on a flat table, and place 100 primers on the flip tray area.
  4. With the device resting on a smooth table top, slide it around with short, sharp motions to flip all the primers until they are all anvil side  up.
  5. Replace the lid and insert a primer tube into the appropriate exit hole. Push down on the orange latch as you insert the pipe into place, and make sure it seats all the way home.
  6. Hold the device in  you right hand, with  your index finger on the button and your thumb centered on the lid. Tilt the PRIMAFILL so that the primers bunch-up near the BLOCKED exit hole (so by the LARGE when feeding SMALL primers)
  7. Activate the vibratory motor by pressing and holding the power button, then gradually tilt the device towards the open exit hole (to the right for SMALL primers) so that a single (or at most a double) row is formed towards the exit hole. Also tilt the device towards you to assist the primers in running down the exit channel to the exit hole. Do not tilt more than necessary in either axis. Try to keep the PRIMAFILL as horizontal as possible, while still creating sufficient motion in the primers.

Please Note:

  • Various brands of primers will flip best with different types of agitation motion of the flip tray. Experiment to find the optimal flip tray action required to flip your primers.
  • Various types of primers will slide differently, at different speeds. Some will require you to hold the device at a steeper angle to get them moving properly. Experiment a little to find the correct feeding angle best for your primers.
  • If a primer hangs on the exit hole, a tap with your left hand finger on top of the lid above the hole should clear that up instantly. No need to stop the vibration of the device or remove the lid.
  • If your primer tubes have an entry hole chamfer that is not well formed or not symmetrical, this can create a ledge that primers may hang up as they fall down into the tube. Try using the other end of your tube. Or, try rotating the tube to find the angle that allows the primers to flow uninterruptedly into the tube. You can mark that with a Sharpie on  your tube, so  you can easily position it again the same way.
  • Primer Tubes are NOT included with the device, in order to reduce costs and packaging size. Order tubes separately, if you need them.

Hi Richard,
I would refer you to the video on the product page in which we load 10 tubes of 10 different types of primers in 11minutes. And while they are not all as smooth as others (some primers are easier to handle that others and always will be) it is WAY faster than pickup by hand. Check out that video and the tips about how to hold the device and how to get it to feed faster with primer types that are problematic.

This is exactly what I have been looking for! If there is one thing that makes reloading uninteresting for me it is loading primer tubes. So much so that I bought a dozen tubes and fill them when I am not busy. I could never justify spending $300 plus on other solutions and I even tried to build one myself until it dawned on me I had more time developing a solution that I would have filling tubes for the next ten years! This is a cost effective answer, and you only need one large and one small primer tube...EVER! This works as advertised and is very fast. When you run out of primers, it takes literally 30 secs to load a tube and continue. If I have any criticism at all, it is that large rifle match primers sometimes jam up at the exit hole. Non-match and standard primers are fine. A gentle tap or pulling the tube out about 1/8" clears the jam. Everything else runs through like a greased pig! I am buying a second for my son as a stocking stuffer this year. Thanks ALPHA for identifying a need and developing a great cost effective solution. Watch the video is is very slick.

The unit works best with CCI small rifle primers, regular ar magnum, and secondly with Winchester small rifle primers. I found that Remington small rifle benchrest primers were problematic, entering the down tube opening canted. When using these primers, constant, gentle tapping was required. Further, be sure to clean dust particles from the lined part of the tray. Wolf small rifle magnum primers also worked well. I have not used the unit with large primers but will in the future. Overall, with the correct primers, the unit is a terrific aid in my loading process.

So my Frankford Arsenal VibraPrime finally died and after loading 7 tubes manually I had to get a primer loader ASAP - a good excuse to get this product. Unexpectedly the WSP primers proved somewhat of a challenge having to manually tap it occasionally to get the primer to fall in. But otherwise seems to better than VibraPrime until after finishing my 600-round loading session. Found 21 rounds with the primers flipped!! These would've flipped during the primer pick-up tube filling. Some may say 21/600 isn't much. However after loading 30-40K with the VibraPrime without a single flipped primer I think 21/600 is 21 too much. Looking at the design of the primer outlet chute, it's slightly deeper compared to the VibraPrime which makes the WSP primers flow better but this makes it prone to flip. The coarser and lower frequency vibration of the Primafill also makes the primers "jump" more making it more prone to flip compared to the VibraPrime which has a finer higher frequency vibration. But the one good thing I like about this is the primer pickup tube locking mechanism. That is a real plus compared to the VibraPrime. Saying all that, we know WSP primers are slightly irregular in thickness due to the anvil sometimes not seated in the cup properly. This causes the primer to get stuck in the primer outlet track/chute in the VibraPrime having to manually remove it. This is not an issue with the DAA Primafill. I will try this for a few more 600-800 round loading sessions. If I keep getting flipped primers then it's time to shell out for another VibraPrime. [DAA Reply]: dear Boon, Primers really cannot flip over while falling down the exit hole. The size of the hole is too tight. They can only end up upside-down in the tube if they approached the hole that way. I am sure that when you flipped them on the flip tray you visually inspected that they were all correctly oriented. What could possibly happen, in some cases, is that the lid is slightly warped/bulging upwards, which allows too much of a gap between the tray and the lid. In such a case, a primer may flip over again while being fed towards the hole. If this is the case in your unit, the simple solution is just to apply more pressure down on the lid as you operate the device in your hand. That will prevent the gap from being too large under the lid and solve complete your flipped primer issue. If this bothers you much, contact us for a replacement lid.

Those last few primers are usually going to have to be flipped by hand, otherwise you end up flipping some in the wrong directions. As to filling the tubes, get the angle right and they flow right in without issue. So far I've used it with CCI, Federal and Fiocchi. CCI and Federal are a breeze, but because of the way they're packaged, Fiocchis are a little more of a pain, but once the tray is ready they fill the tubes just fine. It seems well built and overall I'm very happy with the purchase. I think it's a hard to beat time saver for the money.

I use a lot of Fiocchi primers that appear to be ever so slightly larger than CCI or Federal, this causes an occasional slight hesitation. By touching the primer tube on my bench the device shakes a little more vigorously and down they go, in the correct orientation too. I also like not having to add a magnet to the end of the primer tube to function with this loader.

It's not extremely difficult, but the fact it's floppy and just resting there by pressure alone is a little disconcerting knowing you could spill a full sleeve of primers. I've noticed it goes through 9v batteries fairly quickly as well. Keep a good supply of batteries on hand if you are doing several thousand at a time. I'd strongly consider a rechargeable.

Got my Primafill about a week ago and I was having some issues with the small exit hole. I have several DAA accessories for dynamic shooting and reloading, so I tried conacting directly them for help. I was really surprised and happy to receive lightning fast and kind assistance to solve my issue. I received the small part to replace with a rush order and was able to install it as agreed with the customer service without any issue in a matter of a minute. Now my unit is processing primers down the tube like a master with incredible speed, 100% of the time in the correct side, as smooth as it can get and with a strong quality feel to it. Primafill is simple and built to last, you can also hear a different and deeper high tech vibrating motion if compared with other products. This purchase proved me not only that DAA products are really high quality and well built, but also that Double Alpha Academy really stands behind their products and loves to have happy customers. I really enjoy the Primafill and I'm completely satisfied and happy on how customer care was kind and helpful to manage my little issue. GREAT Company and GREAT product!
