Awesome addition for your safety! Well made, and very easy to adjust for close monitoring of your powder charges during the reloading process.

I got 2 of the powder checker as I have 2 Dillon 750 one set up for 9mm the other .44mag target loads . Dont need it for the 9mm as 5gr fills the case so a quick look you can see its ok or not but it takes that one point off the check list . Case feed . Primer. power ( no need ) bullet head .

Much better, more forgiving and more accurate than the stock powder cop! Measures quickly and triggers off the case rim so very few annoying mis-triggers and does not go off if you skip a case.

Really a great product, my only small gripe is I wish there was a "not as sensitive" version, I really only want to know about double charges and empty cases.... maybe something to allow the "off" area to be about double what it is now.

I believe it must involve an immense amount of man hours for RnD, for a group of individuals, to refine, greatly improve and simplify, products that are already considered by many, to be top of the line by many hand loaders all over the world. None the less, Double Alpha has pulled it off once...

I am new to reloading and thought this appeared to be a well thought out better built unit. It takes a few steps but installs relatively easily, especially with DAA's video. I like the sensitivity setting capability. I was initially trying out a range of powder levels to see what works best in a...

This is a very clever device. The fact that the checker warns both for too little loads and excessive loads is really nice. I load 9x19 and double loads with RS12 are easy to spot as powder will be everywhere and I am more worried about squib loads which this product prevents very well. I use...

This is a great little check to prevent large over or under charges. It does have one failing. There is a plunger for short (pistol) cases and one for long (rifle) cases. Unfortunately 300 Blackout cases fall in a dead zone. One plunger is too short, one is too long. I had to cut down the long...

Works great easy to set up. Just had to angle it a bit farther away fro the Hornady powder because it’s made of steel instead of the aluminum like the Dillon. Magnet from powder check was drawn toward it.

Simple to set up and works great. While the amount of variance allowed is more than you would want for precision loading, it does a great job of detecting drastic over or under charges. Would definitely prevent a squib or overcharge that could cause firearm damage.

It does exactly what it says it will do. Short of magically finding a way to not tie up a station, I can't see how it could be any better.

It does create a small amount of powder mess but for me that has been very minor. A couple of granules every few cartridges.

Out of the box easy setup, loading on a Dillon XL750 and slowing down each down stoke to look inside the case to make sure you don't have a short or too much charge was getting tired so after installation no more worries full speed ahead, great product only problem is it's out of stock again.

DAA Magnetic Powder Check 2.0

(96)
Manufacturers: Double-Alpha Academy
DILLON XL750 NOTE
The Dillon XL750 Powder Measure is angled such that the powder bar must extend directly over station #4 in the toolhead, and it cannot be repositioned. This Is not an issue if you have a short die in that station. However, if you wish to run a powder check in station #3, and a bullet dropper in station #4, as many do, this creates a serious problem. As a solution to this issue we are pleased to offer our  Extra-Short Dillon Powder Bar.

Description:

The DAA Magnetic Powder Check 2.0 (US Pat. Pending) is a great addition to any progressive reloading machine, helping to ensure the quality and safety of your reloaded ammo.

The unique new design uses a high-tech Reed Sensor and a magnet assembled to the plunger Rod, to assess if the charge in the case is of the correct height.

In the new 2.0 design, the Sensitivity Adjustability feature has been removed, in favor of placing the Reed sensor in a fixed position on a custom built PCB board. That fixed position is one that sets the accepted height variance to about 2.0-2.5mm, which is what we found to be the best setting for all. More than sufficient to pick up a double-charge, debris in the case or a case without powder.
This design change now allows all components to be PCB mounted on the custom board – making the electronics much more reliable and long lasting.

An additional improvement to the DAA Magnetic Powder Check 2.0 is that the polymer shoe on the end of the plunger rod (which contacts the powder) has now been replaced with a brass CNC machined part, which helps to reduce the static electricity which could cause some powder to be lifted out of the case.

The DAA Magnetic Powder Check 2.0 assembles onto a station immediately after your powder dropper, screwing into a standard die thread 7/8-14 station. However, unlike other powder check systems, the DAA product does not require a dedicated hole drilled through the tool head next to the station! It can be used on ANY progressive reloader which has an available station after the powder drop.

A powder-check does require the use of a station in your toolhead, so if you do not currently have an available station, you may need to combine your seating and crimping into one station using a 2-in-1 seat/crimp die to free up a station. These too are available from DAA.

The DAA Magnetic Powder Check 2.0 is activated off the top rim of the case rather than the base of the shell plate, this means that no alarm will sound if no case is present. The powder sensing plunger (now with brass shoe) enters into the case mouth to rest on top of the charge and measure its height, sounding an alarm if the  powder level is either too low or too high. It provides both an audible beep alarm as well as a bright red LED light when triggered.

The DAA Magnetic Powder Check 2.0 includes a replacement short plunger, suitable for use with rifle ammo. When using for rifle, simply replace the plunger, and assemble the steel rod upside down, using the end without the brass shoe to enter into the small case mouth. Parts included make this suitable to use with all pistol ammo (9mm and up) and for rifle from .223 and larger.

It’s compact size, slick and modern design, ease of setup and adjustability, make the DAA Magnetic Powder Check 2.0 the perfect accessory for your toolhead!

Summary of features and advantages:

  • Can be used on all toolheads, does not require a dedicated hole near station.
  • Assembles onto any 7/8-14 station
  • Provides both an audible AND a visual alarms
  • Acceptance range of powder level is approx. 2.0-2.5mm. Easily enough to trigger an alarm in case of a double-charge or no-charge situation.
  • Includes all parts for both rifle and pistol use
  • Activates off the rim of the case, so no alarm sound when no brass is present
  • Slim and compact design
  • Quality materials. Stainless Steel Rod, Brass shoe, with an aluminum red anodized die body. Rubber coated glass-fiber reinforced nylon for electronic housing
  • Custom PCB board for all electronic parts ensures reliability and longevity

but as for the .44mag set up for 7gr in that case you can not see so before I got this I had to look with a torch through the die hole that this checker now fits.
I feel a lot safer now knowing that the right charge is in the cases .
it is easy to set up too

None the less, Double Alpha has pulled it off once again with another great product. Not only at a very competitive price, but a reasonable one as well. Also, the products are generally readily available to be shipped out and are received to very quickly, allowing us to get them installed and put to work. Thank you for your excellent products and comprehensive instructional videos on the net as well as the provided instructions. Keep up the good work DAA. Thanks again from not only a satisfied repeat customer, but am impressed one as well. Take care. K.C.F OHIO

I am new to reloading and thought this appeared to be a well thought out better built unit. It takes a few steps but installs relatively easily, especially with DAA's video. I like the sensitivity setting capability. I was initially trying out a range of powder levels to see what works best in a pistol and I was able to set the powder check to "beep" above and below the overall range levels. I like the fact that it audibly beeps, as well as, visually displays if too much or not enough powder and that it is silent if the powder is correct or if there is no case present. All in all, this was a good purchase for me with good pricing, quick shipping, and good results - so, 5 stars!

I load 9x19 and double loads with RS12 are easy to spot as powder will be everywhere and I am more worried about squib loads which this product prevents very well. I use this together with Mr Bulletfeeder, 2-in-1 DAA seating&crimp die and DAA short powder slide in a XL750. If had to choose between this and Dillon version I would choose this DAA product.

Unfortunately 300 Blackout cases fall in a dead zone. One plunger is too short, one is too long. I had to cut down the long plunger so that it was still a bit longer than the short plunger. That works fine, however now I don't have a long plunger. Customer service has been fine before, I'm sure they'll send me another long plunger. This really should come with a medium length plunger for cases like this.

It does create a small amount of powder mess but for me that has been very minor. A couple of granules every few cartridges.

My first one had a broken retainer tab and DAA promptly sent me a new one. It was a very easy process to get it made right, handled by an actual human who was easy to communicate with and actually read what I was saying. Their support is great and kept this at five stars despite the initial issue. I've subsequently purchased more items from DAA and will continue to do so in the future.

This is an excellent unit and I am very pleased with it. There are two, minor, issues I had with the units I purchased. 1) Using it on an XL650 reloading 380 acp the die could have been a little shorter, approx. 1mm would do. Screwing the die down until contact was made left the actuator at a critical point in not engaging the switch. I shaved the die and all is well. 2) The ability to have more than one die body to allow moving the other parts between different toolheads. It is a little awkward trying to unscrew and screw in the die every time I want to change calibers.
All times that I have used the powder check, it alarmed whenever there was a minor variance in the powder, 1/10th of a grain in smaller calibers.
